Council 3175 Time and Money Contributions for 2023
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 3175, ST MARY’S PARISH
SELECTED ACTIVITIES OF MONEY, TIME, AND TALENT (during 2023)
- Sponsor breakfasts for school and youth trips (total over $2,800.00 to date)
- Provide funds for hurricane relief to two parishes in Ft Myers area ($2,000.00 total)
- Sponsor for St Mary’s School Gala ($1,500.00)
- Sponsor for St Mary’s Parish ($1,500.00)
- Provide funds for other worthy needs, as budget allows.
- Serve in many capacities in parish: Extraordinary Ministers of Communion, ushers, sacristans, cantor, clean-up day volunteers, St Vincent de Paul Society food bank volunteers, youth religious education,…
- Paint school rooms and other parish facilities as needed—pay for paint.
- Refurbish priest’s rooms in rectory
- Help new pastor move into rectory
- Stain/maintain structure in upper playground (major wooden structure built with Army Engineers blueprints in 1993)
- Operate American Grill booth at Fall Festival
- Cook spaghetti dinner at Fall Festival (75 gallons of spaghetti sauce—plus pasta, bread, salads)
- Sponsor the Emory Valley Annual Fundraiser Dinner (area nonprofit serving those with special needs)
(Done for 10 years running. Formerly bought all food, cooked, and served dinner to 272. This year member paid caterer but bought desserts, salmon, beer, and wine. This year members grilled 35 lbs. salmon, provided 12 volunteers to serve catered meal, and hosted the wine/beer bar. The meal had no cost to Emory Valley Center and raised $22,000 net. Sponsorships and “raise the paddle” donations raised over $60,000 more. This event started at St Mary’s gym when the Emory Valley Center asked the Council to sponsor a meal.) - Over the next six months (July to December 2023), the Council plans to distribute over $24,000 to the parish, school, and various charities.
- Working concessions at the UT football games in 2022 raised these funds—the Council will not do so this year.
- Almost $7,000 will be given to enable purchase of for a new DC-70 ultrasound imaging machine (with matching funds from another charitable organization and then matched by a grant from Knights of Columbus Supreme.
- Sponsor monthly breakfasts ($6.00 per head, $20.00 per family) at minimal cost to promote parish social interactions.
- Sponsor Friday night Lenten dinners after the Stations of the Cross.
- Note: Pay the maintenance expenses for the Knights of Columbus house, which included replacing the roof at a cost of over $9,800.00 in CY2022.

Pressure Washing the Convent
The council stepped up to do a good exterior cleaning to the Convent for our cherished Sisters. Four Knights were there spend several hours on Saturday morning to brighten up the building: Ray Audet, Michael Barnes, Larry Carignan and Dave Zakrzwski.

UT Fundraising Charity Recipients
Money raised by Council 3157 from working UT Football concessions in 2022 was used for special purpose funding to a number of charitable oganizations for special need of those groups. Below are two of those groups that were recognized at our July 13 business meeting along with two primary UT Football Concession organizers, Morgan Paul and PGK Ray Audet.
Sasha Benjamin and Becky Hook from ADFAC (Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties) were present for recognition of the contribution to ADFAC.
Purchase of backpacks and school supplies for needy children to start school with necessary tools. (50 backpacks with school supplies @ $35.00 each.)
Joan Burns (not shown), Justin Croft, and Autumn Davis (Arc client), were present for recognition of the contribution to the Arc of Anderson County.
- Develop parent resource kits to provide information on how to obtain State services, find physicians, advocate for child in school, etc. $1000
- Expand summer program to include a field trip outside of Oak Ridge, e.g., Pigeon Forge. 10-15 young people. $800

Breakfast Fundraiser for Youth trip to NCYC
The Knights council held their monthly breakfast for May after the 8AM and 10:30AM masses. The Knights donated the $1,000 in reciepts from this special breakfast to the Youth Group trip for the National Catholic Youth Conference that will be held in Indianapolis. The 8 members from the Youth Group going on the trip had fun helping to cook, serve and cleanup. They will be holding additional fundraisers to help cover the trip expenses. The next fundraiser will be a car wash next Sunday the 28th from 8AM to 12PM. Photos

2023 Gala of Lights
Our Council was again a sponsor of this years St. Mary’s School Gala of Lights event on April 22, 2023. We had good attendence of Knights and spouses. Our council donated a 4 hour yard cleanup to the auction fundraiser.

UT Orange & White Football Game
Some hardcore Knights from Council 3175 took up an offer to man one of the concession booths to serve hungry and thirst fans that came to watch the Orange & White game. The Orange & White game is an annual live scrimmage that gives the fans a chance to see some new players and lineups. Out concession booth was incredibly busy during the whole event as a result of many fewer stand being open. Over 58 thousand fans came out to watch.

Knights Donation to Knoxville Catholic
Dennis Urban presented a check for $1000 to Sister Scholastica to support a Pro-Life trip for students of Knoxville Catholic. 20 Students and 9 chanerones traveled to St, Louis and then Kansas City where they attended a spiritual retreat, engaged in service work and and had many activities that included engaging with people of the communities.

KOC District Free Throw Competition 2023
The district level free throw playoff was hosted at St. Mary’s gym on February 5th. There were 11 boys and girls age group winners from council 3175 Oak Ridge, and 8781 Faragut. These aage group winners are now eligible to move on to the regional level competition on Feb 26th. Age group winners of that competition will be invited to the Tennessee state finals.
